Afrobeat singer and Grammy-nominated artiste, Made Kuti, has shared his views on marriage proposals, revealing why he chose not to go down on one knee while proposing to his wife, Inedoye Onyenso.

The 30-year-old musician who is the son of legendary Fela Kuti, said he believes marriage should be a mutual decision between two people rather than an act that places one partner in a position of pleading.

Made disclosed this during a recent episode of the Timeless Podcast aired on the Nix Network YouTube channel.

According to him, his decision was based on his personal understanding of partnership and equality in relationships.

“I did not go down on my knees when proposing to my wife because I told her it was a mutual decision. We are not begging each other to be with each other,” he said.

Made Kuti and Inedoye Onyenso tied the knot in a private ceremony held in Lagos in November 2023.

The singer also disclosed that his wife had previously been his “school daughter.”

The Afrobeat star had earlier sparked conversations in 2025 after addressing criticism surrounding his marriage to Inedoye, who is of Igbo origin.

Reacting to comments from those who questioned their union based on ethnic differences, Made described ethnic prejudice as a “slave mentality,” maintaining that such beliefs should not define relationships or marriage choices.
