The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing operations against armed robbery and violent crimes with the arrest of a suspected robbery gang member in Midim Clan, Abak Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Uduak Vincent, 28, was arrested during a coordinated police operation carried out in the early hours of Thursday following credible intelligence on the activities of a notorious syndicate allegedly terrorising commercial motorcycle operators in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives of the command were on routine patrol around 3:00 a.m. when they received information about the criminal gang known for robbing unsuspecting motorcyclists at gunpoint within Midim Clan and surrounding communities.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the police team stormed the suspected hideout of the gang members.
The statement said the suspects attempted to flee on sighting the operatives, but one of them, Uduak Vincent, a native of Ikot Ifang Village in Midim Clan, was apprehended after a chase.
Items allegedly recovered from the suspect include a locally made pistol, a small axe, a knife, charms suspected to be used for criminal fortification, and six wraps of substances believed to be Indian hemp.
Other items recovered were two button phones, three bottles of ICE, three rings, an Airtel SIM card, and a multi-coloured handbag.
The police disclosed that two other members of the gang escaped into nearby bushes during the operation, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents across Akwa Ibom State.
He warned criminals operating in the state to desist from unlawful activities or be ready to face decisive police action.

The command also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring that all information provided would be treated confidentially.
