The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has commenced an appeal process for aggrieved aspirants excluded from the screening exercise ahead of the party’s House of Assembly primaries.
The development follows the release of the screening results on Sunday, which showed that only 33 aspirants were cleared to contest in the primaries, while 65 others were disqualified.

Among those affected are all 32 aspirants reportedly aligned with the political camp of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, a move that has intensified concerns over alleged factional dominance within the party.
Most of the aspirants cleared for the primaries are believed to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, including incumbent members of the Rivers State House of Assembly associated with the former governor’s political structure.
In a statement issued on Monday, APC State Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, directed all aspirants who purchased nomination forms for the House of Assembly elections to verify their screening status at the party’s state secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Ikenga stated that appeals arising from the screening exercise would begin today, Tuesday, and advised dissatisfied aspirants to formally submit their complaints through the party secretariat for consideration.
The screening outcome has further exposed divisions within the Rivers APC, with political observers closely monitoring how the party manages the growing discontent ahead of the primaries.

The appeal process is expected to determine whether any of the disqualified aspirants will be reconsidered before the commencement of the House of Assembly primary elections.
