Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reiterated his administration’s focus on rural development and infrastructure expansion with the commissioning of the 11-kilometre Owot Uta–Nung Oku–Edeobom road project linking Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Ibom.

The governor, represented at the event by Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi, said the project aligns with the state’s development blueprint aimed at opening up rural communities, improving agricultural transportation, and stimulating economic activities across the state.

Eyakenyi explained that the road, executed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in collaboration with development partners, was among the early projects initiated by the administration and remains central to its ARISE Agenda.

She disclosed that the government has recorded significant progress in infrastructure delivery across the state, noting that several road and bridge projects are ongoing in all 31 local government areas.

According to her, “no local government area is left out” as the administration continues to invest in key sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture and transportation.

She also highlighted recent approvals by the governor, including the release of funds to the State Universal Basic Education Board for intervention projects and the recruitment of additional primary school teachers to strengthen the education sector.

Local government leaders present at the commissioning lauded the project, describing it as a catalyst for economic growth and improved connectivity between communities. The Chairmen of Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Ibom LGAs commended the governor for fulfilling campaign promises and pledged continued political support.

Traditional rulers from the benefiting communities also expressed appreciation, noting that the road would enhance mobility, trade and social development in the area.

Officials from the World Bank and RAAMP, including representatives of the World Bank and the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, praised the state government for its commitment to counterpart funding and effective project implementation, which they said enabled the timely delivery of rural infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Offiong Offor, said the road would significantly reduce transportation costs and improve the movement of farm produce from rural areas to urban markets, supporting the state’s agricultural development agenda.

Residents of the benefiting communities described the project as a major milestone that would boost economic activities, ease transportation challenges, and improve overall quality of life in the area.
