The management of Akwa United F.C. has commended the ultra-modern Ibom Gym – located at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, describing the facility as one of the best sports development centres in Akwa Ibom State.

The club’s Vice Chairman, Ini Edoho, gave the commendation after the team’s training session at the gym on Wednesday.

Edoho lauded the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, for establishing and equipping the facility to support athletes and sports teams across the state.

According to him, the Ibom Gym has provided a major relief for the club, which previously relied on privately owned fitness centres for physical conditioning sessions.

“Since the inauguration of this gym, this is my first time visiting the facility. I want to sincerely appreciate the Honourable Commissioner for Sports for conceiving and executing this project for the benefit of athletes in the state,” Edoho said.

He noted that the facility would improve the team’s training routine and help players maintain peak fitness ahead of competitions.

Akwa United, popularly known as the Promise Keepers, are currently preparing for the 2026 President’s Federation Cup following the conclusion of the Nigeria National League season. Head coach Paul Offor has already conducted multiple training sessions with the players at the Ibom Gym this week.

Other sports stakeholders in the state have described the facility as a significant investment in grassroots and professional sports development, capable of enhancing athlete performance and promoting sports excellence in Akwa Ibom State.
