India has strongly condemned a drone attack on an energy facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, which left three Indian nationals injured, while calling for restraint and uninterrupted access to the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs, through its spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, denounced the targeting of civilian infrastructure and urged an immediate halt to hostilities.

“We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians,” Jaiswal said.

The UAE has blamed Iran for the attack on the energy installation, an allegation Tehran has denied. Iranian state television maintained that the country had “no pre-planned programme” to target oil facilities in the UAE.

India also stressed the importance of maintaining free and secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which it imports nearly half of its crude oil.

“We call for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law,” Jaiswal added, noting that India stands ready to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which have disrupted global energy supplies since late February. As the world’s third-largest oil importer, India remains highly exposed to fluctuations in oil supply and prices.

Analysts warn that India’s heavy reliance on imports, coupled with relatively modest reserves, leaves it particularly vulnerable to further disruptions.

In response, the country has diversified its sourcing strategy, leaning on traditional partners, strengthening new alliances, and increasing imports of discounted Russian crude despite previous efforts to reduce dependence under external pressure.
