The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Lamido Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), describing him as “a square peg in a square hole.”
The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report presented by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, which cleared the nominee after a screening exercise.

Presenting the report, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, said Yuguda met the requirements for the position in line with Section 8(1) of the CBN Act. He noted that the nominee demonstrated strong expertise in financial and monetary matters during the screening and that no petitions were received against him.
“The committee found him suitable and hereby recommends his confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” Abiru said.
The motion for confirmation was seconded by Senator Danjuma Goje, who expressed confidence in the nomination, stating that President Bola Tinubu made the right choice.
Following a voice vote conducted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the appointment.

In his remarks, Akpabio commended the nomination, describing Yuguda as well-suited for the role and praising the President for what he termed a fitting appointment.
