President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development following his confirmation by the Senate.

Dr Darma replaces Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who recently resigned from the position.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Friday at the State House, Abuja, where the President described the new minister as a competent and experienced professional suited for the role.

“You have a very rich and interesting background. As a leader, we need competent hands like yours,” Tinubu said, noting that Darma’s experience makes him a “fitting peg in the right position.”

He urged the new minister to be prepared to serve diligently, especially at a time he described as critical for national development.

Dr Darma is an academic and development expert with a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Atlantic International University, USA. He also holds degrees in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Benin.

A member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management, he previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) from 2008 to 2012 and held commissioner roles in Katsina State.

Until his appointment, he was President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Human Development Centre in Katsina.

The appointment comes as part of ongoing efforts by the administration to strengthen key sectors and drive national development.
