The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has ordered security agencies to launch immediate and coordinated operations to dismantle suspected terrorist camps located in forested areas across the state.
This directive was disclosed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, following a fresh wave of deadly attacks in Apa and Otukpo Local Government Areas.
The incidents reportedly resulted in multiple fatalities, raising concerns over escalating insecurity in the region.
Governor Alia strongly condemned the assaults on the communities of Edikwu-Ankpali, Ikobi, Adija, and Upu, describing them as senseless acts of violence. He noted that the attackers have been using nearby forests as safe havens to plan and execute their operations.
Emphasizing his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, the governor instructed security operatives to act swiftly in flushing out the armed groups and restoring order. He reiterated that safeguarding lives and property remains a top priority of his government.
Alia further assured residents that the state is collaborating closely with federal security agencies to carry out sustained, intelligence-led operations aimed at achieving lasting peace in affected areas.
He also called on members of the public to stay alert and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could support ongoing efforts.
The governor extended his condolences to families who lost loved ones in the attacks, reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting all residents of the state.
