The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday received the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Olufumilola Mutiat Disu, alongside her delegation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, in a visit marked by renewed commitments to police family welfare and institutional support.
Describing the engagement as a strong show of solidarity, the IGP praised POWA for its sustained contributions to improving the lives of police personnel and their families.
He highlighted the association’s critical role in easing the pressures associated with police duties, particularly through its focus on family stability, child development, and the promotion of peaceful home environments.
“The work of POWA remains vital in complementing the efforts of the Force by ensuring that officers are supported on the home front,” the IGP stated, noting that such interventions ultimately enhance operational efficiency and morale within the police.
The IGP encouraged deeper cooperation among POWA members and stakeholders, stressing the need to reinforce welfare structures that directly contribute to the well-being and effectiveness of officers across the country.
The visit also spotlighted POWA’s ongoing repositioning agenda aimed at expanding its impact nationwide. Key initiatives outlined include the rollout of a free eye care program, broader welfare schemes, and targeted interventions in mental and emotional health support. Additional focus areas include economic empowerment for police families, youth development programmes, and efforts to foster national unity.
