Troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade under Operation WUTAN DAJI have recorded a major operational breakthrough following a coordinated clearance operation in Kumbodoro Forest and Kumbodoro Village in Bauchi State, dealing a significant blow to bandit networks operating in the area.
The offensive, supported by air components, led to the destruction of multiple bandit enclaves, including the notorious Azuge camps within the forest axis.
Several bandits were neutralised during the operation, while key hideouts were dismantled, significantly degrading the group’s operational capacity and ability to threaten nearby communities.
During the operation, troops successfully rescued eight kidnapped victims who were held captive by the criminal elements.
A subsequent search of the camps led to the recovery of a cache of arms and operational equipment, including four skeletal rifles, four dane guns, one FN rifle magazine, one AK-47 magazine, communication devices, and other tactical items.
Other recovered materials include two pairs of boots, three helmets, a power bank, a StarTimes decoder, QJC meta links, a jackknife, six mobile phones, arrows, radio chargers, OPAY ATM cards, photographs, an identity card, several sets of security agency uniforms, and leg chains.
In a related development, troops stationed in Duguri, acting on credible intelligence, recovered 36 cattle at Mushen Kura Village in collaboration with local vigilantes. The livestock are believed to have been abandoned by fleeing bandits due to sustained military pressure in the region. Efforts are ongoing to identify the rightful owners for their return.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across all theatres of operation, emphasizing intelligence-driven operations, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained offensives aimed at denying criminals and terrorists safe havens.
