The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State is reportedly considering former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, as a leading contender for its 2027 governorship ticket, according to party sources familiar with recent high-level discussions.
A closed-door meeting held on Tuesday and reportedly chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya saw senior party stakeholders openly reference Pantami as a preferred aspirant for the state’s top political office.
Participants at the meeting described him as one of the most prominent figures under consideration for succession planning within the party.

Sources further claimed that there was growing support within certain party blocs for a consensus arrangement that could potentially eliminate the need for a competitive primary election. Under such a scenario, Pantami could emerge as the party’s adopted candidate for the 2027 governorship race in Gombe State.
Party insiders reportedly highlighted his academic background and public service record as key factors driving the endorsement discussions. However, no official statement has been issued by the state APC leadership confirming any final decision on zoning, consensus building, or primary election procedures.
While discussions are still considered preliminary, some stakeholders are said to view Pantami as part of a broader long-term political vision within the party, although such projections remain speculative at this stage.

Neither the APC leadership in Gombe State nor Pantami himself has publicly confirmed acceptance of any governorship endorsement or consensus arrangement for the 2027 election cycle.
