The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving the safety and security of corps members across the country.
This renewed partnership was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Brigadier General Nafiu congratulated the IGP on his appointment and commended the recent reforms and the inauguration of a special police team designed to enhance operational efficiency.

He noted that the Nigeria Police Force has remained a key partner in the successful implementation of NYSC programmes since its establishment, stressing the need for continued cooperation to safeguard corps members, particularly in orientation camps and their places of primary assignment.
The NYSC Director-General also appealed for improved security coverage for corps members and NYSC facilities nationwide, especially as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections. He further called for enhanced protection of corps lodges and personal belongings of serving corps members.
In addition, Brigadier General Nafiu sought collaboration with the Nigeria Police Academy to facilitate the issuance of exemption certificates to eligible graduates, in line with the provisions of the NYSC Act, which exempts members of certain security institutions from national service.
In his response, the Inspector-General of Police assured the NYSC of continued support, noting that the Force has detailed records of corps lodges across the country and would take necessary measures to enhance their security when required.
He also welcomed the proposal regarding exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy, describing it as a positive development, and pledged continued cooperation between both institutions.

The Police Chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to ensuring the safety of corps members and strengthening existing security arrangements in partnership with the NYSC.
