The Southwest leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for his pragmatic and result-oriented approach in tackling economic and financial crimes, as well as curbing cybercrime among Nigerian youths.

The commendation was given during a familiarisation visit by an NUJ delegation to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Ibadan Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Hauwa Garba Ringim, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The delegation, led by NUJ Southwest Vice President, Comrade Aderonke Samo, who was represented by the Ondo State Chairman of the Union, Prince Leke Adegbite, praised the EFCC leadership for its efforts in combating corruption and mismanagement of public funds across the region.

“This visit is to commend you for the excellent work you have been doing in the fight against corruption, mismanagement of public funds in public service, and cybercrime among our youths in Oyo State and the Southwest at large since your appointment,” Adegbite said.

He further lauded the EFCC Chairman for what he described as strategic leadership, noting that placing the right individuals in key positions has contributed to improved efficiency and measurable success in the anti-corruption fight.

“We sincerely thank the Executive Chairman of the EFCC for putting a round peg in a round hole, which has led to remarkable progress in tackling economic and financial crimes in the region,” he added.

Adegbite also assured the EFCC of continued support and collaboration from the NUJ, urging members of the public to embrace the Commission’s whistleblower policy as a tool for strengthening accountability and transparency.

In her response, the Acting Zonal Director, Hauwa Garba Ringim, acknowledged the consistent support of the NUJ, describing journalists as critical partners in the fight against corruption.

She noted that the EFCC under Olukoyede’s leadership recognizes the vital role of the media in promoting transparency through fair and objective reporting.

“EFCC appreciates the efforts of Nigerian journalists for their balanced and professional reportage of the Commission’s activities,” she said.

Ringim reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media through effective information sharing, while also advocating for press freedom and responsible journalism as essential drivers of national development.
