The Kano State Government has approved the sum of ₦4.4 billion for the payment of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination fees for over 150,000 students in public schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, disclosed the development, stating that the intervention will cover candidates sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examinations for the 2026/2027 academic session.

According to the commissioner, the initiative forms part of the broader education policy of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at easing the financial burden on families and ensuring that students successfully transition from secondary to tertiary education.
Makoda emphasized that the government remains committed to improving access to quality education and supporting students to achieve academic success without financial constraints.
The move has been widely seen as a significant investment in the future of education in Kano State, particularly in promoting equal opportunities for students from low-income backgrounds.
