Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved, released the sum of ₦123.5 billion to contractors handling newly approved and ongoing road projects across the state.
The fund is designated for the payment of mobilisation fees, right-of-way compensation, and the settlement of outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs), according to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.
The projects, which span over 167 kilometres of roads, include the Ikwe–Odio Road; the six-lane dualization of Nnung Udoe–Afaha Offiong–Afaha Nsit with a rotary intersection; the dualization of Afaha Offiong–Ikot Imoh–Itreto; and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Okorete–Iko Road with two mini bridges in Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas.
A breakdown of the funds shows that ₦69 billion has been earmarked for newly awarded projects, while ₦54.5 billion will be used to service outstanding IPCs and additional works on existing projects.
The state government said the release of the funds is intended to enable contractors take full advantage of the ongoing construction season by mobilizing to site and deploying necessary resources to ensure timely completion of the projects.
It added that the move reflects Governor Eno’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development in line with his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
