The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, has commended the member representing Onna State Constituency, Hon. (Elder) Sunday Johnny Udofot, for what he described as effective and impactful representation of his constituents.
Speaker Otong gave the commendation on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Qua Iboe Church Primary School, Awa, in Onna Local Government Area during Hon. Udofot’s constituency briefing and empowerment programme.
Addressing constituents and stakeholders at the event, the Speaker said Hon. Udofot had distinguished himself in the three cardinal responsibilities of a legislator, lawmaking, oversight and representation noting that his performance had contributed positively to the development of Onna State Constituency.

Otong also lauded the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, for fostering a strong working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government. According to him, the synergy has enabled lawmakers to effectively deliver democratic dividends to their constituents.
He noted that the governor’s support had created an enabling environment for members of the House to acquire and distribute meaningful resources through empowerment initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.
The Speaker assured Governor Eno of the 8th Assembly’s continued cooperation and support in advancing policies and programmes geared towards the development of the state.
While congratulating the beneficiaries of the empowerment programme, Otong urged them to make judicious use of the items provided to enhance their businesses and improve their standard of living.

He further cautioned against selling the items at giveaway prices, emphasizing that the initiative was designed to promote self-reliance and economic growth.
The event attracted political leaders, community stakeholders, party faithful and residents of Onna Local Government Area who gathered to witness the constituency briefing and empowerment exercise.
