Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a TikTok user, Udoma David Ekeh, for allegedly spreading false information about the Commission and its officers.
The EFCC disclosed that the suspect, in December 2025, circulated claims on social media alleging that operatives of its Ilorin Zonal Directorate were kidnapped by bandits while on assignment in Kwara State. He further alleged that ransom was demanded for their release.
The Commission, however, described the claims as entirely fabricated, accusing the suspect of using his TikTok platform to misinform the public and undermine its operations against internet fraud.
Further investigations by the anti-graft agency reportedly revealed that Ekeh is also involved in a suspected romance scam. He was said to have used a Facebook account under the name “Garg Carta,” posing as a foreigner to defraud unsuspecting victims.
The EFCC stated that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
