A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Maitama has rescinded the bench warrant earlier issued against Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kabiru Turaki, over his alleged failure to appear in court.

The court granted the order on Wednesday following an oral application by Turaki’s counsel, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, which was not opposed by the prosecution.

Justice Peter Kekemeke, who presided over the matter, ruled that the warrant had served its purpose since the defendant had voluntarily appeared in court.

“The essence of the bench warrant was to produce the defendant in court, and since the defendant has appeared voluntarily, without being arrested, and the application not being contested, the bench warrant is hereby rescinded,” the judge said.

The case, which involves a lone charge of allegedly providing false information to the police, was subsequently adjourned to April 22, 2026, for further proceedings.
