NIGERIAN ARMY APPOINTS NEW GOC, COMMANDERS

The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, with the appointment of new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), commanders, commandants and principal staff officers across its formations.

The changes were approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, as part of efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen national security.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, Major General WM Dangana was appointed General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE. At the same time, Major General EI Okoro was named General Officer Commanding 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE.

The statement also announced the appointment of Major General JR Lar as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola was named Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff.

Other appointments include Brigadier General IB Buhari as Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, Brigadier General K Rabiu as Commander of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade, and Major General SA Emmanuel as Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.

Major General O Adegbe was appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.

The reshuffle also affected military training institutions, with Major General KE Chigbu appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, and Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). Brigadier General U Ahmad was appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

In addition, Major General KO Ukandu was named Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison was appointed Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, innovation and exemplary leadership in the discharge of their responsibilities.

According to the Army, the reshuffle is part of its ongoing transformation agenda aimed at building a more professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
