The founder of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, on Sunday officiated the marriage of a young autistic man, Aboy Chibuzor, to a single woman, weeks after a viral appeal for a wife for the man sparked public criticism.
The wedding ceremony, held at the church on March 29, followed backlash from Nigerians who described the earlier proposal as inappropriate and demeaning. The cleric had subsequently apologized, stating he had no intention to disrespect women.
Aboy, who is non-verbal and requires assistance with daily activities, was reportedly abandoned as a child at the church gate and has since been raised under the care of the ministry.
Explaining the decision, Chinyere said the marriage was intended to provide companionship and long-term support for the young man, who depends on caregivers for feeding, bathing, and other daily needs.

As part of the arrangement, the pastor announced financial and welfare support for the couple, including a ₦10 million gift, a house, and an overseas vacation. He also pledged an additional ₦20 million after 10 years, subject to certain conditions. Members of the church reportedly contributed additional donations.
Sharing updates on social media, the cleric expressed optimism about the union and claimed signs of improvement in the groom’s condition, noting that he had begun feeding himself.

The development has continued to generate mixed reactions, with supporters praising the gesture as compassionate, while others maintain concerns about consent, dignity, and the welfare of those involved.
