The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative has said that the recent directive by President Bola Tinubu will put an end to longstanding revenue leakages in the country’s extractive sector.

NEITI stated that the President’s order mandating improved accountability and transparency in revenue collection and remittances signals a decisive shift towards plugging financial loopholes that have undermined national earnings over the years.

The agency noted that the directive aligns with its long standing advocacy for stricter compliance with financial regulations and full disclosure of revenues generated from oil, gas and mining activities.

According to NEITI, effective implementation of the order would strengthen inter agency collaboration, ensure timely reconciliation of payments, boost government revenue available for development.

The transparency body added that enhanced oversight of revenue generating agencies and stricter monitoring mechanisms would reduce discrepancies in remittances and curb sharp practices within the sector.

NEITI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reforms aimed at promoting openness, accountability and prudent management of Nigeria’s natural resources for the benefit of citizens.

The agency urged relevant institutions to fully comply with the President’s directive to ensure the era of revenue leakages becomes a thing of the past.
