The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers, recovered goods valued at ₦31,750,000 following a tip-off from members of the public over a robbery incident in Ibadan.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command said the arrests were made after one Ezekiel Inije was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by a five-man gang along the Coca-Cola area, Asejire, Ibadan.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, directed the CP Monitoring Unit to immediately swing into action, deploying human intelligence and investigative tools to track the suspects to the Oko area of Ogbomoso.
The suspects arrested were identified as Chigbo Mesoma, 24; Erondu Wisdom, 29; and Okechukwu Emmanuel, 25.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Howo Long truck with Lagos registration number AAA 724 YJ, loaded with 2,000 bags of Karma Agric Chicken Feeds valued at ₦31,750,000, a cutlass, and an additional Lagos State vehicle number plate marked LSR 339 XW.
Commending the operatives, CP Haruna praised their swift response and professionalism, noting that community cooperation played a critical role in the success of the operation.
“I also express appreciation to members of the public whose timely and credible intelligence made this operation possible. Community cooperation remains invaluable in the fight against crime,” the commissioner said.
He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, described as notorious for highway robbery and hijacking of goods.
The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and have reportedly confessed to their involvement, while further investigations continue.
The command reiterated its commitment to ridding the state of criminal activities and urged residents to continue providing useful information, assuring that all intelligence would be treated with strict confidentiality.
