Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested eight persons and impounded six trucks over alleged illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso axis spanning Kwara and Oyo states.

The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, February 20, 2026, following credible intelligence and several days of surveillance on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation in parts of the two states.

With the latest operation, the total number of suspects arrested by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate for illegal mining within the past one month has risen to 18.

The EFCC disclosed that the suspects were intercepted alongside six truckloads of assorted minerals suspected to be lithium and kaolin.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly operated without the required licences, permits, or regulatory approvals for mining activities.

The Commission said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon conclusion of ongoing investigations.
