President Bola Tinubu has congratulated two distinguished Nigerians, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and Anna Adeola Makanju, Vice President, Global Impact, OpenAI, on their selection to the Devex Power 50 List for 2026.
The duo were recognized alongside 48 other global leaders, including Ghana’s President John Mahama, for their outstanding contributions towards shaping global development.
President Tinubu praised Prof. Pate and Ms. Makanju for their remarkable achievements, describing their recognition as well-deserved.
“By their nomination, Pate and Makanju have made Nigeria proud. The honour is another testament to the infinite talents and potentials that abound in Nigeria, among Diaspora Nigerians,” the President stated.
The Devex Power 50 is an annual list highlighting 50 of the most influential people, organizations, and initiatives shaping the future of global development.
Prof. Pate, formerly Global Director for Health, Nutrition and Population at the World Bank, was recognized for his advocacy in improving healthcare access in Nigeria, with a focus on sourcing health products domestically. His influence extends beyond Nigeria, as he continues to work to reform the global health infrastructure, making him one of the most prominent health Ministers in Africa, internationally.
Ms. Makanju, who currently oversees model deployment, policy, and governance for OpenAI, was previously Special Adviser to US President Joe Biden. Devex notes that she has emerged as a key figure in artificial intelligence, advising governments worldwide on balancing innovation with public safety and drafting the first wave of AI guardrails.
President Tinubu charged them to continue working diligently, striving for excellence in their respective fields, further enhancing their contributions to global development.
