Twenty-five public servants in Akwa Ibom State have received keys to newly built two-bedroom bungalows provided by the State Government as part of its workers’ welfare programme.
The presentation, which took place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Office of the Head of Civil Service, was conducted on behalf of the government by the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters, who also serves as Chairman of the National Housing Fund (NHF) in the state.
The new housing units come in addition to the 150 free two-bedroom expandable flats earlier allocated to junior public servants on Grade Levels 01–08.
Beneficiaries expressed excitement at the gesture. One of them, Mr. Lionel Udoka, thanked Governor Umo Eno for the initiative and pledged continued dedication to his duties.
“We are very excited to receive the keys to our new houses. We sincerely thank our dear Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for this kind gesture. We also appreciate the Head of Civil Service for facilitating today’s presentation,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Peters described the housing scheme—located at the Public Servants’ Estate in Ikpedip, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area—as part of the government’s efforts to address the accommodation needs of workers, in line with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.
She urged the beneficiaries to show appreciation by remaining committed and loyal in their service, while also making proper use of the facilities.
“This gesture reflects the Governor’s magnanimity and deep concern for the welfare of public servants in the state,” she added.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Ms. Doris Ikpuho, noted that the 25-unit estate was developed by the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company (APICO) and constructed by MacDudu Resources Limited.
She commended the Governor for his commitment to workers’ welfare and praised the Head of Civil Service for facilitating the successful allocation of the housing units.
The initiative underscores the state government’s continued efforts to improve the living standards of its workforce and enhance productivity through targeted welfare programmes.
