Factional Labour Party National Vice Chairman (South West), Dr Abayomi Arabambi, has dismissed suggestions that Peter Obi’s defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) represents the end of his political journey, arguing that further political developments could still unfold ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Arabambi, who was reacting to Obi’s emergence as the NDC presidential flag bearer, alleged that the former Labour Party presidential candidate may face resistance from within political circles due to his exit from the party.
According to him, Obi’s movement to another platform does not shield him from political consequences arising from decisions taken during his time in the Labour Party.
“Peter Obi’s move to the NDC is not his final destination. If he thinks he has found a haven after destabilising the Labour Party, he may soon face serious political pushback from those still within the party structure,” Arabambi said.
He further argued that political success cannot be achieved through personal ambition alone but requires broad public acceptance and sustained engagement with governance issues.
Arabambi maintained that Nigerians ultimately determine electoral outcomes and stressed that any candidate seeking national leadership must address concerns around governance, accountability and anti-corruption efforts.

His remarks come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties and politicians continue repositioning ahead of the presidential contest.
The comments add another layer to ongoing debates surrounding Peter Obi’s political future and the evolving dynamics within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
