The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rescheduled the unveiling and inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council from Tuesday, October 20, to Monday, October 26, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party attributed the postponement to an important overseas engagement involving its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, which affected his availability for the previously scheduled event.
NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the development in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the adjustment became necessary following consultations with the party’s leadership.

Director confirmed that the inauguration, originally fixed for October 20, would now take place six days later.
The party apologised to members, supporters and other stakeholders for any inconvenience caused by the change, urging them to remain focused on preparations for the forthcoming elections.
The postponement follows earlier discussions within the party over the composition of its campaign leadership and the appointment of officials responsible for coordinating its nationwide election activities.
On October 10, NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, announced plans to inaugurate the council during a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee.
Cleopas explained that the leadership was consulting Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to ensure that suitable individuals were appointed to strategic campaign positions.
He maintained that the party preferred a careful selection process to avoid appointing officials whose commitment or political loyalty might become uncertain during the electioneering period.
The proposed council is expected to coordinate campaign operations, political mobilisation, communications and other activities supporting the party’s presidential ticket.

The NDC had also outlined plans to present certificates of return to its candidates and organise a dinner aimed at strengthening cooperation among those contesting various elective positions.
However, the party’s latest announcement did not separately confirm whether those additional activities would also take place on October 26.
The rescheduling comes as political parties intensify organisational preparations for the 2027 elections.
Despite the adjustment, the NDC maintained that it remained committed to its electoral objectives and called on supporters to sustain their mobilisation efforts nationwide.
