The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ratified the outcome of its nationwide primary elections and approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future party congresses and primaries as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolutions were reached at the party’s Second National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting, attended by its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, running mate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, members of the National Working Committee, state chairmen, and other party stakeholders from across the country.

Addressing the gathering, the party leadership commended Obi and Kwankwaso for their commitment and leadership throughout the primary process, while also appreciating governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly aspirants, party officials, and supporters for their contributions to the party’s growth.

The NEC reviewed reports from across the federation and formally endorsed the results of the recently concluded primaries, praising electoral committees, screening panels, volunteers, and party members for ensuring a successful exercise.

Despite acknowledging challenges and disagreements in some states, the party reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, inclusion, and internal democracy. It also resolved to intensify reconciliation and stakeholder engagement efforts to foster unity within its ranks.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of plans to deploy electronic voting systems in future party elections, alongside efforts to strengthen digital membership registration and party data management.

According to the NEC, technology will play a critical role in enhancing transparency, participation, and confidence in the party’s democratic processes.

The party also directed its structures nationwide to intensify grassroots mobilisation and membership expansion while strengthening ward, local government, state, zonal, and national organs in preparation for the 2027 elections.

The NEC further reviewed recent developments in Nigeria’s electoral landscape, including provisions of the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reiterating its commitment to pursuing lawful and constitutional means to ensure electoral justice and a level playing field.

The meeting ended with a call for unity among party members and renewed optimism about the party’s prospects in the next general election.

“The best is still ahead of us,” the party leadership declared, expressing confidence in the NDC’s vision of good governance, national development, and democratic renewal.
