Yemeni government forces backed by Saudi Arabia have claimed fresh territorial gains in western Taiz as fighting with Houthi forces intensifies across parts of the country.

The government forces said they captured strategic high ground overlooking coastal areas during the ongoing “Dawn of Yemen” military operation, which is aimed at retaking territory controlled by the Houthis.

The battlefield claims have not been independently verified.

The reported advances come amid continuing Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

Saudi civil aviation authorities said attacks on Abha and King Khalid international airports on Tuesday and Wednesday killed three civilians and injured 36 others.

In response, the Saudi-led coalition said it launched an expanded military operation against Houthi military infrastructure across Yemen.

Coalition officials claimed that 82 targets were destroyed, including ballistic missile storage facilities and weapons depots. The scale of the reported damage has not been independently confirmed.

The latest escalation follows the internationally recognised Yemeni government’s announcement of operations aimed at retaking areas remaining under Houthi control.

The renewed fighting adds to concerns over further instability in Yemen, where years of conflict have caused a severe humanitarian crisis and left different parts of the country under rival authorities.

Meanwhile, international flights have resumed at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport, according to Iranian state media.

An Iraqi Airways flight from Najaf was reported as marking the resumption of a two-way international flight schedule at the airport.

The development comes amid continuing regional tensions involving Iran and its allies, while military operations in Yemen show no immediate sign of ending.
