Cristiano Ronaldo’s wife, Georgina Rodriguez, has explained why she and her football superstar opted for a private wedding ceremony at their home instead of a lavish celebration.
Recalled that the couple announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 11, revealing that they had exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at their residence in Cascais, Portugal.
The decision came as a surprise to many fans who had expected the high-profile couple to stage a grand wedding.
Speaking to Vogue, Rodriguez said her idea of the perfect wedding had undergone significant changes since childhood. She recalled once dreaming of a fairy-tale ceremony complete with a magnificent castle, carriage, elaborate gown and diamond crown.
However, she said her priorities had changed with age and experience.
Rodriguez explained that she eventually realised she preferred a private celebration involving only Ronaldo and their children, rather than a large public event.
According to her, the couple already have access to luxurious properties, islands, horses and cars, making an intimate family occasion more meaningful to them.
She said the choice of their living room was also deliberate because it is central to their everyday family life, where they eat meals and spend time together.
Rodriguez added that she wanted the wedding to become a cherished memory for their children.
She said that decades from now, she hopes their children will remember that their parents exchanged wedding vows at the same table where the family shared their everyday meals.
For Rodriguez, the decision was therefore less about grandeur and more about creating a personal and lasting family memory.
