Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior has urged football referees to offer greater protection to attacking players, including Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez.

The Brazilian appealed while reacting to a reported four-match suspension following his dismissal during Real Madrid’s 1-0 La Liga victory over Villarreal.

Vinícius was reportedly sent off for pulling an opponent’s hair during the encounter, prompting disciplinary action.

Speaking about the punishment, the forward expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of the announcement, saying he only became aware of the decision after arriving at the stadium.

He also questioned whether players had received adequate explanations of the disciplinary provision applied in his case.

Vinícius maintained that he had not deliberately engaged in violent conduct and argued that referees were sometimes too quick to caution him despite the challenges he regularly faced from opposing defenders.

The Brazilian said attacking players who rely on skill, speed and creativity frequently attract physical challenges and deserve consistent protection under football’s rules.

He specifically mentioned Yamal and Álvarez, arguing that players capable of influencing matches through their individual abilities should be protected against persistent fouling.

Vinícius also acknowledged that opposition supporters were entitled to express their frustration when facing him, but maintained that refereeing decisions should remain fair and consistent.

Reflecting on his development at Real Madrid, the forward recalled facing criticism after joining the Spanish club as a teenager.

He said doubts about his goalscoring ability had motivated him to improve, eventually helping him surpass 100 goals for the club.

The reported suspension has renewed attention on disciplinary standards in Spanish football and the balance between protecting attacking players and enforcing rules against misconduct.
