United Nigeria Airlines has withdrawn one of its aircraft from service after it suffered a bird strike during arrival at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The airline said the decision was part of its safety procedures as the aircraft undergoes further inspection and maintenance checks.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the airline said the incident involved one of its Embraer 190 aircraft operating Flight UN0523 on September 1, 2026.
According to the airline, its maintenance team detected signs of a bird strike on the aircraft’s right engine during a standard post-flight inspection carried out at 21:40 UTC.
“Following standard post-flight inspection, our maintenance team identified evidence of a bird strike at 21:40 UTC on the right engine of the aircraft,” the airline said.
United Nigeria Airlines noted that the aircraft would remain out of operation until the necessary checks and maintenance work are completed.
The airline also warned that the development could affect its flight schedule, leading to disruptions on some planned services.
It apologised to passengers affected by the changes and assured them that support arrangements were being provided.
“We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this has caused to our valued passengers. Be assured that those affected are provided with full support,” the airline said.
