United States President, Donald Trump is scheduled to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden in New York on Monday, after accepting an invitation from New York Knicks owner James Dolan.

Trump confirmed the visit while speaking to reporters at the White House, saying: “The answer is yes… He’s invited me, I’m going.”

The Knicks, who are hosting the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the best-of-seven series, are making their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999 and are chasing their first championship since 1973.

His appearance is expected to trigger heightened security arrangements around Madison Square Garden, one of the most high-profile sporting venues in the United States.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver welcomed the development, describing Trump as a lifelong Knicks supporter and expressing enthusiasm about his attendance at the Finals.

Silver noted that Trump had previously been involved in NBA promotional content during the 2004–05 season and has long maintained ties with New York sports culture.

The NBA Finals series continues on Monday, with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, as the championship race intensifies.
