President Donald Trump has ruled out the use of nuclear weapons against Iran, despite escalating tensions and ongoing military confrontations between the two nations.

Speaking at the White House, Trump dismissed the possibility of deploying nuclear arms, arguing that such weapons were unnecessary given the extent of damage already inflicted through conventional military operations.

He stressed that nuclear weapons “should never be used by anybody,” reinforcing a stance against their deployment even in high-intensity conflict.

The remarks come amid a fragile ceasefire following weeks of hostilities that have significantly weakened Iran’s military infrastructure. Trump claimed that US forces had already “decimated” Iranian targets without resorting to nuclear options, adding that any renewed threats could be neutralised swiftly using existing capabilities.

His comments mark a notable shift from earlier rhetoric, where he had issued stark warnings to Tehran, including threats of widespread destruction if negotiations failed. However, the president now appears to be balancing pressure with restraint, signalling a preference for sustained military and diplomatic strategies over nuclear escalation.

At the same time, tensions remain high in the region. Trump has authorised aggressive maritime measures in the Strait of Hormuz, ordering US forces to act decisively against perceived Iranian threats, a move analysts say could further strain the already delicate ceasefire.

While negotiations toward a long-term agreement continue, the US leader has indicated he is in no rush to secure a deal, emphasising the need for a lasting resolution rather than a quick settlement.

The latest developments highlight the complex balance between military pressure and diplomatic engagement as Washington and Tehran navigate one of the most volatile periods in their recent history.
