In a statement issued by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu conveyed his message through a personally signed letter, describing Wadagni’s victory as a reflection of “the trust the Beninese people have placed in your vision and your distinguished record of service as Minister of Finance.”
The Nigerian leader also commended the government and citizens of Benin Republic for conducting a peaceful electoral process, highlighting the importance of democratic resilience in the region.
Emphasizing the longstanding relationship between both nations, Tinubu noted that Nigeria and Benin share deep-rooted cultural, historical, and economic ties. He expressed optimism about strengthening cooperation under Wadagni’s incoming administration.
“Our two nations share a long history of friendship, cultural ties, and cooperation,” Tinubu stated, adding that he looks forward to working closely with the president-elect to enhance bilateral relations, improve regional security, and promote economic growth within the Economic Community of West African States and the African Union.
Tinubu further praised the people of Benin for their commitment to democracy and peaceful participation throughout the election cycle, describing the transition as “a significant chapter” in the country’s history.
