President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

According to the statement, signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, intelligence-driven operations, and inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats across the country.

The statement noted that Major General Fadewa retired after over three decades of military and intelligence service, with experience spanning counter-terrorism, intelligence coordination, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.

He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021.

During his time at ONSA, he reportedly led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre, an integrated intelligence platform designed to improve collaboration among key security agencies, including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he focused on national security reform, policing, and civil-security cooperation.

The statement also highlighted his scholarly contribution through a monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria.”

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general would strengthen the administration’s efforts toward improving homeland security through better intelligence coordination and proactive security management.

The President further urged him to deploy his experience and strategic expertise in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and enhancing national security.
