A suspected terrorist commander extradited to the United States has allegedly discussed plans to target Ivanka Trump as part of a broader series of attacks linked to a foreign terrorist organisation, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The suspect, Mohammad Al-Saadi, an Iraqi national, was indicted on Thursday on eight terrorism-related charges over his alleged involvement in nearly 20 attacks and attempted attacks across Europe, Canada and the United States.

Al-Saadi was recently extradited to New York to face trial over allegations that he participated in plots targeting U.S. interests, including a planned attack on a synagogue in New York City.

Authorities also accused him of ordering attacks on U.S. bank branches and coordinating assaults against Jewish individuals in several European cities.

According to three sources familiar with the matter, Al-Saadi allegedly discussed wanting to target Ivanka Trump in Florida in an additional attack plan. However, the alleged threat was not included in the official indictment or in the Justice Department’s public statement announcing the charges.

Ivanka Trump served as a senior White House adviser during her father, Donald Trump’s first administration. She is married to Jared Kushner, who also held a senior advisory role during that period.

Court documents identified Al-Saadi as a commander of Kata’ib Hizballah, an Iraq-based group designated by the United States as a foreign terrorist organisation.

The organisation is alleged to maintain ties with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which Washington has also designated as a terrorist group.

The U.S. Justice Department alleged that Al-Saadi had worked closely with senior leaders of both organisations since at least 2017 and played a role in directing retaliatory attacks against American citizens and officials following U.S. airstrikes that killed key militant leaders.

“As alleged in this indictment, Al-Saadi has been directly involved in terrorist operations and military decisions to attack U.S. and Israeli interests across the world and conspired with others to plan deadly attacks on American soil,” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement.

Blanche added that U.S. authorities were prepared to prosecute the suspect “under American law in an American courtroom.”

Neither the White House nor the U.S. Secret Service immediately commented on the alleged plot involving Ivanka Trump.

The FBI and the Justice Department also declined to provide additional details on the matter.
