Two police officers have been killed after suspected armed herders ambushed the convoy of the Divisional Police Officer in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The latest attack occurred on Monday evening, barely four days after suspected herders reportedly killed four policemen and seven residents in the same community.
According to community sources, the DPO had travelled to Makurdi on official duty and was returning to Ayilamo when his entourage came under attack.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the two victims were among newly deployed Mobile Police officers assigned to the community.
The source said the officers were attacked at about 6pm while escorting the DPO back to Ayilamo.
“At about 6pm on Monday, some newly deployed Mobile Police officers to Ayilamo community were attacked and killed,” the source said.
“The incident occurred while the officers were on their way from Ayilamo to escort the Divisional Police Officer, who was returning to the community from Makurdi.”
The incident comes shortly after another deadly attack on Ayilamo, in which four police officers and seven residents were reportedly killed by suspected armed herders.

Confirming Monday’s attack, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, DSP Peter Aondongu, said two officers in the DPO’s entourage lost their lives.
“The DPO came to Makurdi to collect some things, and while returning to Ayilamo, he was attacked and lost two of his men in the attack,” Aondongu said.
