The Nigerian stock market staged a strong rebound last week, gaining 2.9 per cent as renewed buying interest in banking and oil and gas stocks lifted market performance and added about ₦4.57 trillion to investors’ wealth.

The rally was broad-based, with all sectoral indexes closing the week in positive territory, reflecting improved sentiment across major segments of the equities market.

Banking and oil and gas stocks were among the major drivers of the recovery as investors increased positions in selected large-cap and fundamentally strong equities.

The positive performance came despite market activity surrounding the Dangote initial public offering, with the wider market maintaining enough buying momentum to close the week substantially higher.

The ₦4.57 trillion increase in market value represented a significant recovery for investors and reinforced the improvement in sentiment after previous periods of market volatility.

The broad advance across sector indexes also indicated that the week’s rally was not restricted to a single industry, as gains spread across different areas of the Nigerian equities market.
