Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, to remain apolitical and uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in the discharge of its duties.
Shettima gave the charge on Friday while receiving the Chairman of the CCB, Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello, and members of the bureau’s management team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Vice President advised the bureau to maintain strict independence and avoid controversies that could undermine public confidence in its operations.
“Remain steadfast. Be as apolitical as humanly possible and do your job as much as you can,” Shettima told the delegation.

He also commended ongoing reforms within the bureau, particularly efforts aimed at digitising its operations, noting that the global system was evolving and Nigeria must keep pace with international standards.
The Vice President stressed the need for public officers to declare their assets and liabilities electronically from any location, instead of relying on manual processes.
“There is no need for public officials thronging your offices trying to fill in some forms. And you can take them to task, since it has been digitized. You expect everyone to play by the rules,” he said.
Shettima added that the bureau has a critical role to play in strengthening public trust and projecting a positive image for Nigeria.
Earlier, the Chairman of the CCB, Dr. Abdullahi Bello, thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Vice President for appointing a new management team and increasing the bureau’s budgetary allocation.

He disclosed that the agency had embarked on several reforms, including the digitisation of its processes, increased verification exercises, investigations and prosecutions.
According to him, the bureau has also recorded recoveries of assets both within and outside Nigeria, including in London.
Bello assured that with continued support from the Federal Government, the bureau would sustain its anti-corruption efforts in the interest of national development.
