Professor Chihurumnanya Alo has officially assumed office as the second substantive Chief Medical Director of the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State.
His appointment took effect from July 1, 2026, as he succeeds the immediate past Chief Medical Director, Professor Uzoma Agwu.
Professor Alo is a Consultant Public Health Physician and Infectious Diseases Specialist with over 22 years of experience in Community Medicine and Epidemiology.
A Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Community Medicine, he also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Before his appointment, he was a Professor of Community Medicine at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo, and served as Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
His professional expertise spans disease prevention and control, health systems management, programme monitoring and evaluation, with particular focus on tuberculosis, HIV, malaria and other priority public health conditions.
Professor Alo hails from Oshiri in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
