The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that the explosion recorded in the Mushin area of Lagos was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), stating that investigations confirmed it was a mechanical explosion.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, said comprehensive investigations and forensic examinations conducted by security operatives found no evidence linking the incident to any form of explosive attack.

According to the police, investigators did not recover explosive substances, detonators, initiation mechanisms, explosive residues or any other materials associated with bomb explosions at the scene.

The command said preliminary findings showed that the incident resulted from the sudden release of pressure from a mechanical component located outside the affected vehicle.

It explained that the pressure caused the front passenger-side glass panels of the vehicle to shatter, leaving the occupant with only minor injuries.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, the police officially classified the incident as a mechanical explosion and assured residents that there was no indication of terrorism or any coordinated explosive attack.

The command urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.
