Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have rescued a man identified as Bashir Usman from a mob attempting to lynch him over allegations that he tried to abduct a five-year-old child in Kuje.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Tuesday that the incident occurred on Saturday, October 4, in Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council.
According to the police, the command received a distress call that an adult male was being assaulted by a crowd following allegations of an attempted child abduction.

Officers from the Kuje Division were immediately deployed to the scene and rescued Usman before the mob could inflict further harm on him.
Preliminary police investigation indicated that the crowd accused Usman of attempting to abduct a five-year-old child in front of her residence.
The allegation has not been established by a court, and police said investigations were continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Usman has been placed in protective custody while investigators examine the allegation and seek to determine whether other individuals may have been involved.

FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in mob action.
He stressed that allegations of criminal conduct should be reported to security agencies for investigation rather than handled through violence.
The police said the investigation would continue to establish the facts surrounding the alleged attempted abduction.
