The Rivers State Police Command says it has recovered an illegal firearm concealed inside a loaf of bread and arrested a suspect during a routine stop-and-search operation in Port Harcourt.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.

According to the statement, operatives intercepted a vehicle during a routine check along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction and conducted a thorough search of its occupants.
The police said a Browning pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread was recovered from a passenger, identified as Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, Port Harcourt.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm had no visible serial number, raising concerns over its origin and intended use.
The suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators that he purchased it in Okrika for ₦800,000.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant, noting that the recovery highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods used by criminal elements to evade detection.
He advised members of the public to report suspicious persons, packages and activities to the nearest police station and cautioned against accepting, transporting or storing items whose contents are unknown.

The police also appealed to residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, stressing that effective policing depends on strong community collaboration.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
