The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three women allegedly linked to a child-stealing syndicate and rescued three children during an intelligence-led operation in Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
The suspects were identified as Kikelomo Jimoh, 36; Kayode Elizabeth; and Blessing Anochike, 60.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babasiyi, said on Friday that detectives attached to the Ibafo Division made the arrests while investigating a reported case of child stealing.
According to the police, Jimoh was first arrested during the investigation and allegedly led detectives to Anochike’s residence, where the three children were found.
The rescued children were identified as Christiana Olowokere, 14; Olamilekan Abdurusheed, 16; and Adeniji Rebecca, 12.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that Christiana was allegedly sold for N500,000, while Olamilekan, who had earlier left his parents, was allegedly abducted.
The circumstances surrounding Rebecca’s movement and custody are still being investigated.
The police said the children had been safely rescued and were in their custody, while the suspects remained detained.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and to determine the roles of the suspects and identify other persons allegedly connected to the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the detectives for their response and efforts to protect children and other vulnerable persons.
He urged parents, guardians, community leaders, schools, transport operators and residents to promptly report suspicious activities involving children, including unexplained disappearances and unusual custody arrangements.
