Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspected notorious kidnapper and cultist, Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy.”
The 30-year-old suspect was apprehended on April 22, 2026, at Ikot Aka Village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, following what police described as credible intelligence. Authorities revealed that the suspect had long been on the Command’s wanted list and was tracked after allegedly returning from hiding in Port Harcourt.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations have linked Ubong Michael to several high-profile kidnapping incidents in the state, including the abduction of individuals identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of disturbing items, including a human skull believed to be that of a victim, a human bone, two live cartridges, and a dagger.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect has confessed to involvement in the crimes and is currently providing useful information to aid ongoing investigations and the arrest of other members of the criminal network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their professionalism and success, reiterating the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements.

He also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law, assuring residents that Akwa Ibom remains unsafe for criminals. The Police further called on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support security efforts.
