Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has called for an end to the recurring killings and attacks across the country, urging governments at all levels to take decisive action to protect citizens.
Obi, in a statement reacting to the reported killing of 32 Nigerians in Ungushi, Sokoto State, and recent attacks in Ukum, Benue State, said the continued loss of lives was deeply painful and unacceptable.
He described the victims as parents, children, farmers and breadwinners whose deaths had left families devastated and communities living in fear.
The presidential candidate said Nigeria could no longer afford a cycle of killings followed by condolences, promises and inaction.

According to him, the government must prioritise better intelligence gathering, proactive security operations, swift response to threats, protection of vulnerable communities and the diligent prosecution of perpetrators.
Obi stressed that the primary responsibility of the government was to protect the lives and property of citizens, noting that Nigerians should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes, travel safely, and access their farms without fear of attack.
He expressed condolences to the families and communities affected by the attacks and prayed for comfort for the bereaved and eternal rest for the deceased.
Obi also called for lasting peace in the country, declaring that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
