The Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), and the party’s governorship candidates converged on Abuja for a strategic meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, was presided over by the National Chairman of the iNWC, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and focused on strengthening the party’s structures and preparations for the forthcoming elections.

During the meeting, state chairmen of the party commended the Interim National Working Committee for its commitment and efforts in sustaining the PDP across the country.

Speaking on behalf of the state chairmen, Dupe Aisida, Esq., described the iNWC as the “oxygen of the party,” noting that the committee had consistently provided the support and leadership needed to keep the PDP active and functional at the state level.

He praised the committee’s resilience, vision, and determination, stating that its unwavering focus had enabled the party to remain strong despite challenges facing opposition parties in the country.

Aisida further noted that many had doubted the PDP’s ability to withstand what he described as political pressures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but credited the Turaki-led leadership with steering the party through difficult times.

The highlight of the gathering was the formal presentation of Certificates of Return to the party’s governorship candidates by the iNWC, signifying the official ratification of their victories in the party’s primary elections and confirming them as the PDP’s flag bearers for the 2027 governorship contests.

Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Barr. Benedict Etanabene expressed confidence in the leadership of the party, describing the Turaki-led PDP as the authentic mainstream platform.

He commended the party leadership for what he termed exceptional foresight and strategic direction, while also expressing confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the PDP governorship candidate for Adamawa State, Dr Caleb Andrew, applauded the leadership of the party and expressed optimism that the PDP would record significant victories at both the state and national levels in the next general elections.

The candidates reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and pledged their continued support and cooperation with the leadership as preparations intensify for the 2027 polls.
