The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order an independent forensic investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged operations of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), describing the development as evidence of institutional failure within the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the opposition party said the allegations involving the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Prince Adeniyi Matthew have raised serious concerns about accountability, transparency and governance at the highest levels of government.

The PDP noted that while Prince Matthew alleged that financial inducements were demanded in connection with his appointment, the Presidency has maintained that he fraudulently presented himself as a government official and was never legally appointed.

According to the party, if the Presidency’s position is accurate, it raises fundamental questions about how an individual allegedly posing as a government official was able to obtain office accommodation, interact with public institutions, operate accounts and function within government structures without detection.

The PDP argued that the controversy points to either serious institutional negligence or corruption, insisting that both scenarios require a comprehensive and transparent investigation.

The party therefore urged President Tinubu to commission a forensic probe by an independent international firm, suspend officials linked to the matter pending the outcome of investigations, reorganise the Presidency to prevent future lapses and apologise to Nigerians over the controversy.

The opposition party further accused the All Progressives Congress-led administration of prioritising politics over governance, alleging that recurring controversies within government have eroded public confidence in public institutions.

The Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency and that Prince Adeniyi Matthew fraudulently impersonated a public official, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
